Program Mission Statement

Program Mission Statement The Educational Technology program centers upon preparing professionals to enhance and support the academic and career development of students and adult learners in a variety of settings with the effective application of technology. The program offers opportunities to explore the nature of teaching and learning with technology, with digital media, telecommunications, and leadership in instructional technology. The graduate degree in Educational Technology Leadership is a master's program that encourages students to improve their professional practice using learning theory, technology, and leadership skills.

Student Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able:

Knowledge of Literature of Discipline (req)

understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12-20-Adult schools and develop programs facilitating application of that understanding in practice throughout their district/region/state/school/learning enviroment.

Independent Research/ Professional Practice (req)

  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of technology operations and concepts.
  • Model, design, and disseminate curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning

Professional Skills

  • Plan, design, and model effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology at the district/state/regional/local level.
  • Plan and implement the integration of technological and electronic tools in teaching, learning, management, research, and communication responsibilities.

Assessment Approaches

Student learning is assessed in the following ways. In key courses, students' content knowledge is assessed by means of project based learning, written examinations and other practical projects. Communication skills are assessed in presentations and research papers, which are rated using rubrics. Each student designs and conducts a capstone portfolio project based on the ISTE standards, and reports on their learning results for the standards which are evaluated by faculty raters using rubrics to evaluate critical thinking and meeting of the standards.
