What to Expect
What to expect as a new client:
- As a new client you will be sent paperwork to your 成人AV视频 email. Once complete, we will send you appointment options to be scheduled for an Initial Assessment.
- The Initial Assessment session will be about 45 minutes and will focus on what is most concerning or “top of mind” for you at the moment and your counselor will provide some immediate support.
- Some students find that talking with a counselor once is sufficient to resolve their immediate concerns.
- If further services would be beneficial, these will be discussed, and a recommendation will be made by the counselor.
- Additional information about online, on-campus and off-campus resources will also be provided toward the end of your counseling session.
For more information see our FAQ page.
What to expect at a counseling appointment:
After the initial assessment appointment, you will be matched with a counselor at the center, and you will meet with this counselor for about 50 minutes every 2-4 weeks. During the first few appointments, the focus will be on getting to know you, setting goals, and discussing some of the things that led you to make an appointment at the counseling center. It is completely normal to feel nervous in these first few meetings as you and your counselor are building a therapeutic relationship. As we understand how important it is to feel comfortable in session, we encourage you to be open with your counselor about things that are and are not working during sessions. We typically recommend that you attend at least 3 sessions before you decide if this counselor is a good fit for you.
During your sessions, you can expect a warm, supportive, confidential environment where you are able to openly share more about the things you are having difficulty with (we also love to hear about things that are going well!). As these sessions are designed to be focused on the needs you feel are most pressing in your life, it will be helpful to think about things to talk about with your counselor before the session. You are always able to bring up topics from the previous session or discuss what would be the best way to spend your time together that day. Your counselor will listen without judgement and help you explore your concerns. Depending on your counselor’s approach, they may offer insights, ask clarifying questions, or provide space for deeper reflection. The session may involve discussing past experiences, exploring current relationship patterns, setting goals for the future, or learning coping skills. Overall, this space is designed to help you increase your self-awareness and to help you make positive changes in your life.
