English
Program Mission Statement
The MA program in English offers many areas of focus: literature, creative writing, composition and rhetoric (including pedagogy and technical writing), the digital humanities, and film. In each of these areas, faculty strive to help students understand different theories, critical perspectives and concepts, and methods central to research in the disciplines.
Students will experience the pleasure of examining and creating texts, whether those be analytical essays about literature or film; poetry, fiction or nonfiction pieces; and/or lesson or assessment plans for teaching or responding to student writing.
Additionally, students will have the option to evaluate website usability, build historical and literary electronic archives, or present research in professional forums. In each case, students will learn sophisticated patterns of thinking that will encourage the application of professional knowledge and skills to practical and analytical situations.
