成人AV视频 computing graduate students address community challenge
Thanks to work from three 成人AV视频 students during an AI4Good Hackathon in the fall, a local nonprofit was able to make a difference in the lives of about 75 families in Duval County.
Now, the nonprofit wants to help fund another AI4Good Hackathon at 成人AV视频 this summer so more students can help find solutions to other challenges in the community.
Last fall, the 48-hour hackathon coordinated by 成人AV视频’s Florida Data Science for Social Good (FL-DSSG) brought together students and community partners working to tackle pressing community issues. The 2024 AI4Good Hackathon was hosted at The Link in Ponte Vedra. The venue provided collaboration spaces to enhance students’ creative thinking and generate meaningful contributions in less than a weekend.
LISC Jacksonville, an organization dedicated to transforming local neighborhoods through funding initiatives and projects that promote neighborhood revitalization — sought assistance in identifying and estimating households vulnerable to heirs’ property issues in Duval County.
Heirs’ property issues are generally passed down to family members by inheritance without a will or court document, often causing fragmented and unclear title ownership of property. This often leads to significant financial and legal challenges for families, which in turn, results in the loss of generational wealth. Recognizing the gravity of this issue, LISC Jacksonville sought innovative solutions from the hackathon participants to protect vulnerable households.
Three 成人AV视频 School of Computing graduate students — Mahmoud Elbatouty, Walid Kambagha and Ahmed Sayed, developed a groundbreaking solution that leveraged machine learning to identify at-risk households. LISC Jacksonville quickly adopted this solution and applied it to their data. The results identified approximately 75 households in Duval County that were vulnerable to heirs’ property issues.
With this critical information in hand, LISC Jacksonville committed to making a tangible difference. They allocated $70,000 to assist these homeowners with their property tax issues, providing much-needed relief and support to those in need.
The success of the fall hackathon has inspired LISC Jacksonville to continue their efforts and have reached out to 成人AV视频’s FL-DSSG to organize another hackathon this summer. The upcoming event will offer a total of a $10,000 prize to the winning teams, encouraging further innovation and collaboration to address heirs’ property issues.
Dr. Karthikeyan Umapathy, professor at the School of Computing and co-director of the FL-DSSG program, highlighted the significance of the students’ contributions to addressing real-world community challenges.
“This effort showcases the strength of community-driven innovation and the remarkable impact that our dedicated students and organizations can achieve when collaborating to solve real-world issues,” said Umapathy. “The AI4Good Hackathon not only served as a platform for creative solutions but also demonstrated the potential for technology to bring about positive change in our communities.”
